The top 10 reasons to join a Liveaboard in the Maldives

Emperor Atoll is a mid-range popular liveaboard catering to small groups of no more than 12 guests in 6 twin-berth cabins.
Dive routes are designed to show divers the "big stuff" and include "The Best of the Maldives", "Sharktastic" and "Pelagic Magic" and the crew aims to give guests the very best dive holiday experience.

On the main deck is a large saloon with four separate seating and table areas as well as a flat screen TV with multi-system home theatre surround sound.
For underwater video and photography enthusiasts, there are plenty of recharging points/edit playback facilities. WiFi is available when in range of a signal for an extra charge. The DVD and book library includes an interesting selection of marine life material.

From the aft deck, steps lead to the large, partially shaded sun deck with comfortable sun loungers. On the aft deck is a large swim platform with ladder giving easy access to the water. There are fresh water showers and camera wash tanks.

Dive sites are reached direct from the boat or by an accompanying dhoni. The Cruise Director who is a dive instructor plans and guides the diving programme to ensure you visit the very best dive sites with full dive briefings.

All other services which are not included in the "The trip price includes" section.
Dive insurance is mandatory as is your own personal dive computer if you are diving on your trip.
I would recommend Dive Assist for your insurance for the trip as it covers all the necessary things and is very reasonably priced and you can choose the time period you need to be covered for and not have to pay for the whole year.

As well as the Mandatory Dive Insurance we highly recommend Trip and Travel Insurance on the off chance of missed or cancelled flights / lost baggage, documents, money or passport or any other unforeseen problems that could possibly occur.
Dive Assure Insurance offers cover for all these eventualities as well as complete Dive Insurance all in one package

Single Traveller information
Emperor Liveaboards guarantees same sex cabin share on all their Liveaboards.
If they can’t place you in a cabin with with someone of the same sex then they will give you a cabin all to yourself with no single supplement charge applied.
If you are a single traveller and would like to guarantee the larger double bed in a twin share cabin, a €35 per week supplement is charged to secure the larger bed.

If you would like to guarantee a single cabin for yourself then a single supplement charge of 50% of the price of the other place in the cabin would be applied.
For example if the trip is €2000 per person based on 2 persons sharing a cabin, to secure the cabin to yourself you would need to pay the regular €2000 + (€2000 x 50% = €1,000) = €3,000 total for your own single cabin.
If you are happy to share with another same sex diver then the price would be just the regular retail rate of €2000 per person.

Emperor Atoll - itineraries

Transfers to the boat on the first day: Emperor arranges transfers direct from the airport to the boat at 12:00 (12pm) and 16:00 (4pm) on the day of departure and both timings are offered free of charge.
Guests who use the midday transfer accept that the boat may not be fully cleaned or ready just yet due to the previous guests having departed that morning.
A light sandwich style snack will be provided for lunch.
If you do not wish to wait for one of the above transfers or you arrive after the last transfer, taxis are available for around $15, our airport representative will be happy to help you, however, please note that boarding may not be possible before 12:00 (12pm) due to the boat still being re-stocked and cleaned.
If you are already in the Maldives, you should make your way to the airport for the 16:00 (4pm) transfer.
The boat moors in port on the arrival day and overnight on the first night, departing early on the morning following the check-in day.

Departure from the boat on the final day.
The boat moors in port mid-afternoon the day before your departure date and remains in port overnight until check-out from the boat the following morning.
Check out is at 07:00 and guests will be in the airport by 07:30.
For guests continuing their holiday in the Maldives at a resort, hotel or another liveaboard, your on-going transfers need to be arranged by you from the airport.
The boat will not be able to arrange direct transfers from the liveaboard to resorts.
Day use rooms are available with hotel/guest houses on Hulhumale, the boat manager can help you arrange this on request and payment is made locally for this.

Due to the many and varied itineraries we have provided links to the PDF forms for each trip and the qualification level required for each trip
Please note: it is possible to do your Advanced course on board at an extra charge to be eligible to join the trip.

Best Of Maldives, 7 nights (Male to Male) - You don’t need a minimum number of dives to join this trip but a certain level of experience is required and you should be comfortable diving in currents as they can be unpredictable and strong. Many dives are below 18m so it is recommended to have or take your PADI Advanced Open Water course on board to maximise your enjoyment from the trip and be able to join all the dives.
Best Of Maldives, 10 nights (Male to Male) - Same route as the 7 night trip with more time in the special areas
Best Of Maldives, 11 nights (Male to Male) - Same route as the 7 night trip with more time in the special areas
Sharktastic, 7 nights (Male to Male) - This is an intermediate itinerary for divers with 30 or more dives and ideally Advanced certification
Hanifaru & North, 7 nights (Male to Male) - This is a great itinerary for everyone regardless of your experience level but many dives are below 18 metres so an Advanced or Deep dive qualification is recommended
Northern Highlights, 10 nights (Male to Male) - You do not need a minimum amount of dives to join this trip but many dives are below 18 metres so an Advanced or Deep dive qualification is recommended
Deep South, 7 nights (Gan to Kooddoo or Kooddoo to Gan) - This is an Advanced itinerary with over 100 logged dives and an Advanced open water certification needed to join this trip
Southern Shark Adventure, 14 nights (Gan to Male or Male to Gan) - This is an Advanced itinerary with over 100 logged dives and an Advanced open water certification needed to join this trip

Please note: Advanced Open Water certifiction is recommended for these itineraries (You can take this on-board at an extra fee if you choose)
You often need a minimum number of dives to join most trips (For example the Southern trips that require Advanced and 100 dives or "Sharktastic" that requires 30) and you should be comfortable diving in currents as they can be unpredictable and sometimes quite strong.
Many dives are below 18m therefore it is recommended to take your PADI Advanced Open Water course on board or before your trip to maximise your enjoyment from the diving (The Advanced course onboard is $466 per person).
Divers may find some dives challenging and could be asked by the Cruise Director to skip dives that are not suitable for their diving experience in this instance.
Another option is to hire your own private guide if you do not want to do the Advanced course and he will dive with you within the limits of your Open water qualification (18m Max)

Please note: There is, however, the “Discover Best of Maldives” itinerary that is open to all levels including beginners (Open water divers) and non-divers.
Although basically the same trip as the “Best of Maldives” itinerary, the route and choice of dive sites might differ slightly to suit non-divers and less experienced divers, allowing them to enjoy the incredible experience of a liveaboard also.
This itinerary is for people with generally less experience, who'd like to join a normal Best of Maldives trip, but would benefit more from booking a trip 'between moons', as at new moon and full moon, the currents are at their strongest.

Arrival and departure questions and answers..

What is the ideal check in time ? - Emperor arranges transfers direct from the airport to the boat at 12:00 (12pm) and 16:00 (4pm) on the day of departure and both timings are offered free of charge so the perfect time is just before eiter of these transfers

What is the latest check in time ? - Guests can arrive anytime on the arrival day but any transfer outside of the times above may incur an small extra charge
Where are you met on the day of boarding ? - Guests arriving at Male Airport on the “check-in” day will be met by a representative of Emperor Maldives who will be wearing an Emperor Maldives T-Shirt and holding an Emperor Maldives sign.
The meeting point is near the Help / Information Desk.
Is there a check out dive on the boarding day or it is the following morning ? - There is no diving on the arrival day.
What time does diving end on the day before check out (how many dives on the last day) ? - The last dive finishes by about 8am on the day before departure allowing flying the following day and the boat moors near Male mid-afternoon the day before your departure and remains there overnight until check-out from the boat the following morning.
What time is check out on the last day ? - Check out is at 07:00 and guests will be in the airport by 07:30.

If you would like to arrive the day before your trip it is possible to stay in the Airport hotel which is on the same island as the airport (Hulhule island) or stay in another guesthouse on Hulhule Island for the night, we don’t recommend booking somewhere in Male as this involves a ferry or taxi ride to the next island and as it is the capital it is noisy and crowded and probably not what you would enjoy.
Planes do not fly late into the night so you will be able to sleep.
The boat moors in port on the arrival day and overnight on the first night, departing early on the morning following the check-in day.

Departure from the boat on the final day.
The boat moors near Male mid-afternoon the day before your departure date and remains in there overnight until check-out from the boat the following morning.
